Job Summary
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensures that business operations are efficient, effective, and aligned with the strategic goals of the company. The COO plays a critical role in developing and implementing business strategies, managing core operational functions, and driving performance across departments to achieve sustainable growth. This executive leader works closely with the CEO and other senior leaders to ensure operational excellence and deliver high-quality outcomes across the organization
The Chief Operations Officer is a key member of the executive leadership team and will be responsible for leading and optimizing the Bank’s enterprise-wide operations. This role will have oversight of core back-office functions including deposit services, loan servicing, branch operations, technology solutions, call centers, vendor management, operational excellence.
The COO partners closely with business line leaders, the CEO, the CIO, and the CFO to ensure that operations are cost-effective, well-controlled, digitally enabled (when supported by business needs) and aligned with financial, risk, and customer service goals.
What You Can Expect To Work On
Operational Strategy and Execution
Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the company’s vision, mission, and long-term objectives. Translate strategic goals into actionable business plans with clear KPIs, ROI, timelines, and accountability of value creation.
Strategic Execution & Continuous Improvement
Champion enterprise-wide initiatives aimed at workflow optimization, digitization, and cost efficiency. Lead enterprise projects related to regulatory readiness, integration, and core system enhancements.
Technology
Lead the implementation of scalable technology solutions in partnership with IT and the business units. As needed/applicable, guide automation of manual tasks and introduction of workflow tools across back-office and lending support functions.
Vendor and Third-Party Oversight
Co-chair the oversight of enterprise vendor risk management processes. Manage relationships and negotiations with key third-party providers supporting core banking and operations.
Financial Oversight, Accounting, and Cost Management Integration
Collaborate with the CFO and CEO to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial targets. Monitor operating costs and ensure alignment with revenue goals, profitability, and return on investment. Partner with the CEO and CFO to monitor cost structures and operational budgets. Support financial planning and analysis by delivering clear and actionable operational performance metrics. Lead cost reduction initiatives that preserve service quality and mitigate risk.
Risk Management and Compliance
Ensure strong internal controls, process documentation, and regulatory compliance across all operational functions. Work with Compliance, Internal Audit, and Risk Management to proactively address findings and manage risk exposure.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with leaders across the organization (Sales, Marketing, Product, IT, Finance, HR, etc.) to ensure operational support and alignment. Collaborate with lending leadership (Mortgage, Commercial, Construction) to align mortgage operations, commercial loan fulfillment, and construction servicing processes with enterprise operational standards and the achievement of value (ROI) Act as a key liaison between executive leadership and operational teams.
Talent Development
Mentor and develop department leaders and their teams. Support workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership development efforts.
What You Offer Us
Proven experience (typically 15+ years) in a senior financial and/or operational leadership role, preferably in a complex or regulated industry. Strong track record of managing and scaling operations in growth-oriented environments. Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and manage across multiple departments. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Operations Management, Finance, or a related field required; MBA or CPA preferred.

Work Environment
This position is primarily in-office at our KCMO headquarters with flexible Friday work-from-home. Occasional business travel to branches and industry conferences as required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Ability to remain stationary (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods. Ability to conduct keyboard/computer work for extensive periods. Ability to communicate clearly (understand/be understood) with customers in person or over the phone/computer.
