Synchron has an exciting opportunity for a Power Generation Engineer to provide engineering support to the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)
at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. You will be directly supporting the U.S. Navy's submarine shipbuilding program
COLUMBIA Class Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN).

ou will provide technical support for design and development efforts for shipboard electrical power generation systems.
Power Generation Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
Supporting the design and development of the COLUMBIA Integrated Power System (IPS) electrical system, including but not limited to:
Generation and distribution of all electrical power
Controlling systems for all power generation components
Turbine Generator Design and development, with a focus on the Generator side
Turbine Generator Controlling systems
Work closely with Naval Reactors, PMS 397, The shipbuilder, and Component vendors on detailed design requirements to ensure the highest standards are maintained
Ensure all design criteria are satisfied in the production units
Provide rigorous, responsive, technical acumen while retaining a collaborative and amiable approach.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical (preferred), Mechanical, Computer, or other engineering degree or related technical field (i.e. Physics). Extensive NAVSEA or submarine experience may replace the degree requirements.
Five (5) years' experience in the maintenance, operation and issue resolution of power generation systems.
Three (3) years' experience in the design of military or commercial power generation systems.
Be articulate in both oral and written formats.
Ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Required clearance: Active DOD Secret clearance
Desired and Preferred Education and Experience:
Naval Nuclear Propulsion experience on VIRGINA class submarines, at a Prototype site, or Nuclear shipyard.
Three (3) years' experience with magnetic bearings as applied to power generation systems
Work experience at NAVSEA, Team Submarine or onboard submarines.
Work Location: Washington Navy Yard, Washington, DC. Telework options for 1-2 days per week after all initial onboarding and team integration is completed (estimated 2-4 months). Telework subject to change at the direction of the customer.
Travel: potential for travel (10%)
