Under the supervision of a radiologist, the MRI Technologist performs a variety of magnetic resonance imaging procedures and scanners to produce detailed tissue images for medical diagnosis. Prepares pertinent information for physician and care teams review, and delivers patient care and education before, during and after diagnostic imaging procedures. Essential Functions: Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Processes and evaluates the technical quality of images, such as density contrast, definition and distortion. Maintains critical positioning of the patient and equipment during flow of the contrast media to ensure safety of the patient and success of examination results. Instructs patients on body positioning procedures during MRI exams and testing; demonstrates effective communications with all patients by explaining the MRI procedure both before and after scanning and answers all patient questions. Determines equipment requirements for procedures based on the physicians tentative diagnoses, and scout films necessary for physicians preliminary viewing. Maintains MRI equipment by performing scheduled cleaning, testing and documenting results; notifies supervision of malfunctioning equipment. Implements MRI safety guidelines and conducts proper MRI safety during the imaging process. Performs other related technologist duties as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor or manager, including those related to quality assurance and/or control. Other duties as assigned. Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required): Knowledge of radiography tools, techniques and applications, ability to utilize imaging technology on patients for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Knowledge of and ability to prepare patients for diagnostic/radiological imaging and to monitor patients reactions during and after a procedure. Responds to emergent situations by applying appropriate measures. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Graduate of an approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) program. 6 months to 1 year experience preferred. Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Active MRI Certification. License as required by state.
