Hazardous Materials Response Specialist
Compensation $23.43 - $33.11 (Based on Experience) Summary Perform a wide variety of hazardous materials response activities as identified in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 and Confined Space Rescue activities as identified in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146. Perform investigative and administrative tasks related to the planning, operation, implementation, and management of a comprehensive quasi-law enforcement security and protection services program work. Job Responsibilities Perform tasks associated with Confined Space Rescue, including the offensive response to mitigate spills and/or leaks associated with the dispersal of Hazardous Materials Identify hazards and conduct damage assessments Research and conduct atmospheric monitoring and/or sampling Set up mechanical advantage rope systems Perform entry processes as required Conduct decontamination processes Provide safety and protection of GLWA facilities and team members Patrol GLWA facilities and sites Observe activities and report incidents Conduct physical security assessments Perform on-the-job training Monitor security equipment Coordinate and follow security procedures Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED; AND Possess certification as a Fire Fighter I & II; AND One year experience in fire services, emergency medical response, security, military, or related areas. Preferred Education and Experience Certification or previous experience in Confined Space Entry / Rescue Certification/experience in Hazmat Response at the Technician Level Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Wear PPE weighing more than 60 pounds. Push, pull, or carry 200 pounds with assistance from a team member. Climb up six (6) flights of stairs in Level A PPE. Operate in Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), don and doff PPE to include being physically and mentally capable of wearing a respirator that conforms tightly to the face or equipment that encapsulates the head. Climb ladders, and scaffolding, work in confined spaces, and elevated locations and descend underground, walk, stand, or work for long periods, demonstrate normal color perception, hear audible alarms, and detect abnormal equipment sounds. Visually inspect equipment and processes at any time of the day or night. Submit to annual fit tests, wear respiratory protection, and other personal protective equipment. Environmental Working Requirements Work is performed in the field or plant environment. Work may be performed in confined spaces and hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE). Work in temperature extremes for long periods. Perform labor-intensive activities in all weather conditions. Work in environments with low clearances, confined spaces, and various heights.
