Certified Endoscope Reprocessing Technician is responsible for cleaning and high-level disinfection of a variety of endoscopes and accessories. Responsible for maintaining proper function and integrity of endoscopes and equipment in the reprocessing room. Maintains Quality Assurance (QA) and tracking data logs, stores instruments and stock supplies. Performs other related duties as necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Wears proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to perform duties, in accordance to policy and guidelines. Cleans and maintains reprocessing rooms. Demonstrates proper antiseptic techniques in manual and mechanical procedures. Maintains log for Cidex OPA, solution and high level disinfection of endoscopes as per guidelines. Cleans and high level disinfects a variety of endoscopes and endoscopic accessories. Monitors endoscopes and instruments to ensure they are performing at optimal levels. Identifies and labels instruments for processing and high-level disinfection expiration. Operates and maintain automatic endoscope reprocessing (AER) equipment utilizing proper operating procedures and methods in accordance to manufacturer's recommended parameters. Follow policy procedures protocols and infection control guidelines. Maintains QA logs. Oversees the care, handling, and maintenance of endoscopes, inspects endoscopes, and reports broken equipment to supervisor. Maintains endoscope tracking, repair and maintenance. Responsible for shipping damaged endoscopes. Monitors common repair issues and damage prevention strategies. Cleans properly, dries, and stores endoscopes, instruments, and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion, using proper stocking and storing techniques. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Performs other duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the department. Education

High School diploma or equivalent required. Participate in continuing education programs. Participate in annual departmental specific competencies. Maintain certification annually. Complete requirements of continuing education credits to maintain certification. Perform other duties as required within the capacity of knowledge and experience. Work Experience

No Experience required, with preferable education, or 1 year related experience in healthcare, supply management, or operating department or procedure room experience. Certification/License

Certified Endoscope Reprocessing certification to be obtained within 3 months of employment. Recognition of any certification for related healthcare positions such as certified sterile reprocessing technician, etc. Mental/Physical Requirements

Considerable mental concentration required to operate equipment and properly care for instruments and equipment. Standing long periods of time, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs. , reaching required. Stamina to work in a fast-paced environment. Good communication skills, following verbal and written instructions. Compassionate, courteous, respectful and professional. Working Conditions

Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions during reprocessing of endoscopes. Regularly exposed to temperature fluctuations, fumes, or airborne particles, exposure to communicable/infectious disease via contact with contaminated endoscopes and supplies. Must be able to work in a small, confined area for long periods of time. Protective clothing and eyewear at all times. Flexibility to train/work in other areas of surgical services within the scope of education and experience as seen necessary.
