Position Summary:
Provide lab support to the Departments ofBiological Sciences and Physical Sciences. Supply and manage chemicals,reagents and equipment necessary to operate lab classes and facilities in theCollege of Science & Health.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Chemistry Lab Management Collaboration with the Chemical Hygiene Officer to facilitate the operations of introductory, general and organic chemistry lab courses. Oversee and manage the preparation of reagents, experimental equipment and supplies for the department's general and organic chemistry multi-section lab courses offered every semester and during the summers. Supervise student workers assigned to maintain the stockroom areas and prepare reagents, experimental equipment and supplies. Chemical Stockroom Management: Ensure compliance with regulatory and OSHA-mandated requirements to upkeep chemical inventories, SDS files and databases. Regular maintenance of NMR Spectrometer, other instruments and chemical equipment. Purchase day-to-day items and supplies for chemistry faculty researchers, working with department budgets, the Chair and Business Office as appropriate. 2. Biology Lab Management
Collaborate with the Biological Sciences Department Chair or designated lab faculty to facilitate the operations of introductory and other biology laboratory courses. Oversee and prepare the BIOL 1195 laboratory and other laboratories based on the lab prep priorities set by the Department Chair. Supervise student workers assigned to work in the laboratory prep areas. Ensure compliance with regulatory and OSHA-mandated requirements to upkeep chemical inventories for biological laboratory courses. Assist with Biology stockroom maintenance and waste disposal. Other Functions:
1. Other lab duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Required in Chemistry, Biology or a related field required.
Experience:
2-5 years of laboratory or chemical stockroom experience.
Specific Skills:
Workingindependently, organizational, customer service, computer and internetknowledge.
Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications:
Microsoft Excel, Word,Outlook competence. Knowledge ofchemical and biological laboratory techniques and solution preparation as wellas a broad knowledge of laboratory equipment. Hazardous waste management, knowledge of laboratory safety standards,and OSHA and EPA laboratory regulations and guidelines with respect to chemicalstorage and hazardous waste management. Annual OSHA HAZWOPER certification, CPR, and AED training provided uponhire.
Physical Requirements:
May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must reach, bend, stoop, lift. Must sit, walk or stand for long periods of time. Ability to handle varying levels of stress while maintaining professional demeanor. Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun/heat or cold weather.
Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand. Understand the speech of another person.
