Description
The Data Engineer III will be joining a newly formed team responsible for building out a new unified data platform. This team will be building an Azure Fabric footprint and working with cutting edge technologies. This position is responsible for shaping data integration strategies, evaluating and promoting emerging technologies, and developing architecture documentation to support informatics solutions. The role also includes mentoring junior analysts and ensuring regulatory compliance, including HIPAA standards. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with complex data management, biomedical informatics, metadata, and technical leadership in healthcare and academic environments. Ideal experience being sought after includes working experience with Synapse Serverless SQL pools or Databricks and Spark.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic and Technical Leadership Serve as a senior team member guiding project scope, timeline, and deliverable quality.
Form tactical strategies to meet client data and informatics goals.
Lead the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies through proof-of-concepts.
Promote adoption of innovative tools and solutions across the organization.
Mentor junior analysts and guide adherence to data privacy and regulatory standards.
Data Engineering and Architecture Design, maintain, and optimize complex data pipelines and ETL processes to support research and operational needs.
Integrate disparate data sources to enhance reporting capabilities and usability.
Apply biomedical informatics methodologies to meet research-specific outcomes and objectives.
Maintain and enforce metadata and data standardization practices.
Develop architecture documentation for current and proposed data and informatics systems.
Collaboration and Communication Partner with stakeholders across research, clinical, and operational teams to deliver data-driven solutions.
Provide guidance and support to cross-functional technical teams.
Communicate project status and technical strategies effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Data Science, or healthcare discipline)
At least 5 years of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in academic medical centers or clinical research environments
Advanced knowledge of data engineering tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, Spark, SQL, Airflow)
Proven ability to lead small technical teams and manage cross-functional collaboration
Expertise in HIPAA compliance and healthcare data privacy standards
Strong understanding of data architecture and information modeling
Experience with data visualization platforms and metadata management tools
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
Proficient in architecture documentation and informatics solution design
Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in data and informatics
