The York Road Education and Service Program (YES) strives to improve academic outcomes and eventual college trajectories for students at Govans Elementary, Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle School and Tunbridge Public Charter. The TMA AmeriCorps VISTA will serve as a key member of YES Board, which is student-led, charged with expanding and deepening existing relationships.

Member Duties :
Strengthen partnerships between NDMU and community organizations. Explore new opportunities to support Govans, Tunbridge, and Walter P. Carter schools through after-school programs such as health and STEM fairs, arts and sports enrichment, parent budgeting classes, youth entrepreneurship workshops, and mentoring between NDMU students and local children. Continue planning middle school field trips from Tunbridge and Walter P. Carter to NDMU to promote college and career readiness. These trips may include admissions tours, academic fairs, campus lunch experiences, and basketball clinics. Identify areas to expand YES programming, including Gator Thrift on the Go pop-ups for students and families. Strengthen collaboration with NDMU 100 instructors and the School of Education to recruit volunteers. Evaluate learning outcomes for students at partner schools.
