Overview
The Village Learning Place Library TMA VISTA role with AmeriCorps is to build program capacity at The Village Learning Place (VLP), a nonprofit library and learning center in Central Baltimore addressing the educational and economic advancement needs of low-income families and students. The VLP provides free literacy, STEM, and career readiness programs to over 700 residents annually. This VISTA project will expand VLP programming into evening hours with new offerings in workforce development, digital literacy, arts and wellness activities, and community dialogues. Member Duties
This VISTA project will build capacity for The Village Learning Place (The "VLP"), a nonprofit library and learning center in Central Baltimore working to break the cycle of poverty by providing educational opportunities in a low-income community. The VLP provides free literacy, STEM, and career readiness programs to over 700 residents annually. This proposed three-year VISTA project will expand VLP's capacity to serve working families by extending library programming into evening hours. New offerings will include workforce development, digital literacy, arts and wellness activities, and community dialogues, thereby broadening access to essential resources. Aligned with the Economic Opportunity priority area, the project aims to foster economic mobility through lifelong learning. The VISTA member will play a key role in designing and implementing programs, organizing community engagement activities, and developing systems for outreach and evaluation to ensure long-term impact.
