Position Overview

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for processing and collecting student and non-student accounts receivables, handling student refunds, assisting with related activities, and managing accounts in collections.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and process invoices using financial software; send reminders; maintain accurate files; analyze accounts; handle inquiries; conduct collection activities via phone, letter, and collections agency.
  • Process student refund checks; void and replace checks; monitor and process stale-dated checks.
  • Assist students with account analysis; explain account activity; process special payment plans; lift holds as needed.
  • Process charges for third-party agencies and employers; reconcile accounts monthly; prepare invoices using financial systems and websites.
  • Provide account status updates to college departments; maintain spreadsheets of account activity.
  • Review collection reports; update receivables; coordinate with collection agencies; maintain collection files.
  • Prepare disbursement requests and journal entries.
  • Manage employee computer loans; record loans; post payroll deductions.
  • Process student fee reduction petitions; analyze charges; communicate with students and relevant offices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in accounting or business with a focus on accounting; experience in accounts receivable.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience in accounts receivable.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word; familiarity with financial systems and websites.
  • Strong skills in following instructions, data compilation, calculations, and file maintenance.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate standard office and accounting equipment; perform tasks accurately; maintain effective relationships.
Physical Activity Level
  • Light activity: sitting, walking, standing; lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally.
Conditions of Employment
  • Full-time, continuing position at pay grade 05A; salary range $15.73/hr - $17.70/hr; benefits include health insurance and paid time off.
  • Final offer based on qualifications, internal equity, and budget.
