About the Role Blue Ocean Mariculture is looking for a technician to join our Hatchery team. The Hatchery team is responsible for the day-to-day operation of our hatchery departments
Broodstock, Live Feeds, Larval Rearing, and Nursery. Duties & Responsibilities Monitor & respond to the condition of fish/live feeds. Prepare & dispense feed per plan. Collect/harvest eggs and live feeds. Clean filters, systems and tanks, including working with chemicals. Handle fish, requiring getting into tanks. Monitor water quality and minor mechanical and electrical systems. Adhere to biosecurity protocols. Collect and record management data and enter into computer databases. Count, sample, assess fish, rotifer, and artemia. Feed larval fish and monitor larvae condition. Respond to hatchery alarms when assigned on-call. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. What You'll Bring Enthusiasm for aquaculture. Knowledge of aquaculture systems & husbandry. Ability to follow and communicate technical instructions and safety procedures in oral and written formats. BS in biological sciences or 2 years of experience with aquaculture systems. Valid driver's license. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to consistently lift 40lbs, climb 4ft into tanks, and work in a sunny, hot and humid environment. Legally authorized to work in the United States. Preference will be given to candidates already residing in Hawaii. There is no relocation reimbursement available for this position.
