The purpose of this job is to manage the daily operations of the recreation division ensuring high-quality recreational programs and activities are delivered. This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
Planning, scheduling, and supervising athletic events, tournaments, and programs; registering participants; maintaining records and files; preparing reports. Organizes, administers, and supervises a variety of classes non-instructional classes and out-of-school programs. Coordinates program design, outlines class structure, chooses site, determines number of participants, hires instructors. Interviews individuals, outlines class league structure, chooses site, determines number of participants, hires instructors part-time staff. Performs personnel management duties including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, assigning work, and supervising staff, contracted vendors, and volunteers; Prepares and maintains reservation and attendance records and reports, employee time sheets, accident reports, and other documentation. Participates with other employees in accomplishing objectives and implementing a variety of recreational programs. Maintains good working relationship with other agencies. Assists in budget preparation for programs and facilities. Promotes programs and activities through a variety of media such as departmental publications, oral presentations, and promotional materials. Recruits and organizes outside tournaments. Maintains good working relationships with related agencies. Requisitions supplies and equipment necessary to operate various athletics leagues and programs. Plans, implements, and supervises summer camps, sports camps, and out-of-school activities. Requires working a varied schedule to include nights and weekends. Performs related work as required Education And Experience & Special Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education or related field and two (2) years in one or more of the major fields of organized recreation programs or equivalent combination of education and experience with eight (8) years of recreation experience.
