Nature Of Work
This is an executive level position which reports to the City Manager or his designee and is responsible for directing, managing, planning and administering all departmental activities including residential waste collection, recycling, and special collection services. Essential Functions
Administers and supervises individuals engaged in the preparation of cost and operational reports and compiles budget estimates for review and approval by appropriate City authorities. Ensures that waste disposal activities are in compliance with public health and environmental laws and regulations. Ensures the preparation of records and reports on disposal activities such as the quantities of waste handled; negotiates wastes disposal fees with other disposal facilities; recommends amount of fees to be levied. Responds to citizens' complaints regarding abandoned vehicles, solid waste or garbage collections. Coordinates the preparation of handbills or public information materials to keep the public abreast of changes in regulations. Prepares the departmental budget, attends meetings representing the City on matters concerning solid waste or refuse issues. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Business or Public Administration, or a related field and extensive eight (8) years supervisory experience in governmental operations. Master's degree preferred OR An equivalent combination of training and experience beyond a Bachelor's degree in an aforementioned or closely related field.
