Director of Project Engineering
(CAPEX)
is responsible for
overseeing
all
the site's capital budget, long-range capital planning, and the development and execution of the annual capital plan. This role
leads
both internal and external engineering and construction resources and serves as a key member of the Site Engineering Leadership Team
at our Global Headquarters in Seattle, Washington. The Director is accountable for achieving plant and departmental
objectives
by ensuring the safe, compliant, on-time, and on-budget delivery of capital projects that meet defined success criteria. This includes
establishing
the
appropriate departmental
and project organizational structures, implementing effective work systems, defining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and developing leadership capabilities within the team to
optimize
return on capital investments. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that may require extended work hours, including evenings
, during critical projects
. The role also involves the physical demands of supervising construction activities and requires occasional travel. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct engineering assessments, develop cost estimates and design requirements, and manage capital construction projects
ranging up to
$20MM or more.
Ensure the delivery of engineering and construction services to manufacturing operations, laboratories, offices, and warehouses. Daily, hands-on interaction with contractors and vendors in the field is a core responsibility.
Collaborate with plant management, stakeholders, and corporate teams to define project scope, process design, capital and expense estimates, contractor/vendor selection, equipment specifications,
purchasing
, and execution timelines.
Apply and enforce construction standards across all project phases to ensure compliance and consistency.
Lead project teams
comprised
of AGC employees and contractors to meet project goals while managing multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
Monitor and report project schedule and budget performance.
Proficiency
in
Microsoft
Project and cost control tools is essential.
Establish and manage project budgets, track commitments and actual expenses, and oversee all aspects of project closure.
Coordinate with departments including EHS, Process Development, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Automation, Quality, Finance, and others to ensure alignment and support for all projects.
Partner with plant leadership to support development of the annual capital budget and long-range capital planning.
Promote effective communication, employee development, goal setting, performance evaluation, and continuous improvement through coaching and empowerment in a
High-Performance
Work System (HPWS) environment.
Support technical capability development of site personnel across various functions and levels.
Develop and manage the operating budget for the Project Engineering Department.
Drive standardization through implementation of work processes and a Project Management toolkit.
Apply industry best practices and technologies to support biological product development and manufacturing.
Coordinate equipment
selection
, layout, and design of manufacturing systems to ensure efficiency, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Build strong partnerships with internal operational teams and external suppliers to optimize the use of human capital, equipment, and processes in support of production goals.
Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development for direct reports.
Lead and own safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company requirements for AGC personnel and contractors.
Develop cost estimates for labor, materials, and contractor services; review, evaluate, and coordinate bid
selection
and project completion.
Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to support construction planning and execution.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives through collaboration and employee engagement.
Participate in emergency and crisis management teams as needed.
Regularly review and communicate plant KPIs with the operations team,
identifying
opportunities for improvement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Adaptability in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities and schedules.
Strong attention to detail and ability to articulate quality expectations.
Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Experience in process engineering and analytical process mapping.
Skilled in preparing capital funding requests, business correspondence, and executive-level project updates.
HACCP certification
strongly
preferred.
Solid understanding of FDA and GMP regulatory requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Proficiency
in reading and red-lining AutoCAD drawings.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited institution
