The P WR WILDFIRE STRATEGY Department of the P WILDFIRE STRATEGY Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has a management vacancy available. (Role: Manager Supervisor) Leads the development of wildfire risk assessment and modeling and mitigation strategy activities. Oversees scenario-based risk assessment and modeling, strategic planning, and initiative scoping and prioritization to support alignment with the Wildfire Safety Strategy (WSS), regulatory requirements, and long-term public safety and wildfire risk reduction goals. Drives integration of risk intelligence into wildfire strategy planning, ensures risk-informed execution, and enables transparent communication across internal leadership, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders. Manages a cross-functional team and supports consistent, data-driven coordination across WS functions. Directs the Wildfire Planning & Risk team and ensures alignment of risk work products with strategic plans. Essential functions include: Wildfire Risk Assessment & Modeling Develops and maintains wildfire risk models. Prepares annual wildfire risk assessments and supports development of mitigation plans. Conducts annual and ad-hoc scenario planning (e.g., PSPS scenarios, extreme weather modeling). Updates wildfire risk maps and the PSPS program based on wildfire events, system performance, weather, vegetation and topographical data. Validates and documents risk modeling assumptions and maintain centralized tracking of risk model evolution. Supports regulatory reporting related to wildfire risk assessment and modeling methodologies. Integrates risk modeling outputs into WSS updates. Wildfire Safety Strategy (WSS) Development Leads the annual update of Hawaiian Electric's Wildfire Safety Strategy (WSS) grid hardening strategies and plans and associated resource requirements reflected in the WSS. Leads development of operational mitigation and situational awareness strategies and plans. Leads internal and external stakeholder workshops to review progress and gather input. Aligns WSS strategy updates with regulatory expectations. Builds 13-year wildfire mitigation strategic roadmaps. Develops strategic initiatives focused on risk reduction, industry practices, operational feasibility, and regulatory compliance. Supports integration of WSS work plans and budgets into enterprise planning and execution processes. Monitors strategic alignment of wildfire mitigation efforts relative to corporate resilience and risk reduction goals. WSS Execution Program and Project Scope Development & Prioritization Develops and communicates risk-informed scope specifications for wildfire mitigation programs, projects, and operational initiatives aligned with WSS objectives. Develops risk-informed prioritization frameworks for project evaluation and funding decisions. Prioritizes initiatives based on public safety, risk reduction benefits, reliability impacts, execution feasibility, cost, regulatory obligations, and other considerations. Escalates significant scope deviations or prioritization conflicts to WS leadership. Maintains a central repository of scoped initiatives aligned to WSS goals. Supports KPI development, dashboard updates, and quarterly performance reviews. Stakeholder Communication and Engagement Leads external engagement activities with public agencies, regulators, and the community. Maintains transparent communication with internal and external stakeholders regarding wildfire risk and strategy activities. Supports development of stakeholder-specific reports and updates on wildfire mitigation progress. Provides wildfire risk and strategy subject matter expertise to support enterprise wildfire related training and development programs. Department Management Manages and administers department personnel matters throughout the employment lifecycle including recruitment, development, training, counseling, performance appraisals, compensation/merit increases, recognition, and termination. Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response. Basic qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Risk Management, or related field required. Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, or Engineering desired. Extensive knowledge of industry wildfire risk assessment and modeling, mitigation planning, and scenario-based analysis (e.g., PSPS, weather-driven risk). Extensive understanding of wildfire risk across Hawaiian Electric's territories, including the regulatory, technical, operational, and public-facing dimensions. Proficient in strategic planning, roadmap development, and prioritization frameworks. Understanding of KPI tracking, performance reporting, and governance practices. Skilled in process improvement, documentation control, and regulatory reporting. Skills requirements include: Risk & Scenario Analysis: Develops, interprets, and applies wildfire risk models across planning and reporting functions. Leadership: Manages multidisciplinary teams and collaborates across departments. Strategy Execution: Ensures alignment of mitigation initiatives with long-term goals and compliance targets. Executive Communication: Translates complex data into strategic insights for leadership and regulators. Program Management: Oversees complex initiatives with multiple interdependencies. Technical Proficiency: Expert-level use of Power BI, SharePoint, Excel, and Smartsheet. Experience requirements include: Extensive (8+) years of experience in risk strategy, utility governance, or capital program oversight. Professional Engineer license preferred.
