Mechanical Engineer Position
You will review and approve/disapprove complete contractor engineering drawing sets addressing configuration, construction, operating pressures and temperatures, materials, finishes, and tolerances. You will prepare, evaluate, and provide specifications used in the fabrication and assembly of spare and repair parts. You will prescribe test methods and procedures used to ensure quality, including the specification of test equipment required for performance and life cycle testing. You will review and approve contractor requests for waiver/deviation from contract requirements, alternate contractors, and/or alternate/substitute assemblies, sub-assemblies, and component spare and repair parts. You will assess the reliability of assemblies and sub-assemblies through the evaluation of empirical data and other failure and reliability data sources to identify flaws and stresses associated with performance. Requirements: Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. This is a bargaining unit position. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to a GS-05, as a professional engineer applying basic engineering concepts to assist in the design and layout of mechanical equipment and systems. GS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to a GS-07, as a professional engineer applying engineering principles to design, operate, or maintain Naval shipboard weapon systems. GS-11: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to a GS-09, as a professional engineer reviewing plans for a wide variety of shipboard equipment related to mechanical engineering to identify engineering design, logistical, or maintenance support issues. GS-12: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to a GS-11, as a professional engineer evaluating plans for a wide variety of shipboard equipment related to mechanical engineering to identify engineering design, logistical, or maintenance support issues.
