Job duties include performing a wide range of engineering and technical reviews, analyses, and studies. Anticipate and address problems and issues that arise during the acquisition and sustainment of assigned Navy weapon and hull, mechanical, and electronic systems, equipment, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and parts. Provide technical leadership and serve as a technical project manager as well as subject matter expert (SME). Conduct parts research in support of the procurement of spare and repair parts. Validate proposed replacement parts. Participate in receipt inspection activity and certification audits. Review Technical Data Packages (TDPs) for completeness, correctness, and/or changes. Resolve reliability and maintenance issues throughout the life cycle of a system through Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS). Requirements include being a US Citizen, determined suitable for federal employment, and participating in the direct deposit pay program. New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements. Qualifications require at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must be as a professional engineer performing the duties of a Materials Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or Electronics Engineer. Education requirements include successful completion of a professional engineering degree or current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE). In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: For GS-11: three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. For GS-09: two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or Master's or equivalent graduate degree.
