Process Controls Engineer
Reporting into the Process Engineering Manager, the Process Controls Engineer will be based out of Baltimore, MD and will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the Process Control Network operations within our chemical manufacturing facility. The primary goal will be to ensure the efficient and safe operation of our production processes through effective control system management and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operations of the Process Control Network, ensuring its reliability, functionality, and performance. Collaborate closely with Instrumentation Specialist to evaluate and implement automation and instrumentation improvements to ensure operational excellence. Develop and implement control strategies to optimize production processes, improve efficiency, and reduce downtime. Collaborate closely with process engineers, operations personnel, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve control system issues promptly. Maintain and update control system documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, and operating procedures. Implement and oversee process control software updates and system upgrades in coordination with IT and engineering teams. Monitor process performance data and trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements related to process controls and automation. Oversee the scoping, planning, and execution of process controls and instrumentation for capital projects, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives. Required Experience Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field. Proven experience (3+ years) in process controls and automation within the manufacturing industry, with a strong emphasis on PLC and automation of manual tasks. Demonstrated project management skills. In-depth knowledge of instrumentation and PLC, including configuration, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex process data and propose effective solutions. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
