Transportation Manager
The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all transportation services, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and compliance across the department. This role plays a key part in executing strategies to optimize transportation workflows, manage budgets effectively, and uphold regulatory standards. Success in this position requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, as well as a proven ability to lead teams and drive continuous improvement in operational performance. The Transportation Manager will collaborate cross-functionally to support business goals while maintaining a high standard of service and safety. Responsibilities and Duties
Daily Transportation Management Direct team to execute routing strategies set by leadership. Report on success and opportunities of transportation routes, programs, and services to leadership. Track and report on transportation key performance indicators (KPIs), such as route profitability, delivery times, fuel efficiency, and on-time performance. Oversee daily dedicated delivery service (DDS) sorting, routing, releasing and printing. Coordinate local and over-the-road (OTR) driver dispatch. Schedule and delegate vendor direct shipments. Perform vendor pick-up scheduling and logging. Perform customer code verification and order connection within the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Carrier Communications and Partnership Liaise with shipping carriers (e.g., UPS, FedEx, DHL) to arrange timely deliveries, compare shipping rates, and choose the best options based on cost and delivery time. Collaborate with other departments such as Distribution, Operations and Sales to ensure a positive customer experience. Perform trouble-shooting on orders with our third-party logistics providers. Trouble-shoot loading and delivery issues with orders. Handle bill of lading (BOL) issues, damages, dispositions and vendor issues with internal teams and carriers. Complete freight quote requests for sales or buyers. Safety and Compliance Responsible for compliance in all transportation and fleet operations with federal, state, and local regulations, including the Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards. Implement and enforce driver safety training programs, including defensive driving, vehicle operation, and emergency response. Investigate standard transportation-related accidents or incidents and implement corrective actions. Escalate complex accidents or incidents as needed to leadership. Monitor and manage driver compliance with hours-of-service (HOS) regulations and maintain logs as required. Perform regular Samsara compliance audits. Team Development Oversee the employee life cycle of team members within the team which includes hiring, development, engagement, retention and separation. Define the roles within the team to support the Value Creation Plan and set key performance indicators for each role to review on a regular cadence and in annual reviews. Strategize with other leaders on ideal career paths within the function. Understand team member's career goals and support them in achieving the career path they wish to follow. Develop a training program for the team for specific roles and behavioral skills training. Encourage and foster a collaborative work environment within the team and between the team and other departments. Lead teams to develop reliable processes and procedures that produce results. Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or a related field required (or equivalent experience) OR 5+ years of experience in transportation or fleet management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other transportation regulations. Experience with fleet maintenance programs and managing repair schedules. Proficiency in TMS, fleet management software, and GPS tracking systems. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams. Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required. Ability to optimize processes to deliver exceptional results. Builds and leads a high-performing team through training, mentoring, and clear communication. Proven ability to implement strategies to control expenses and improve cost efficiency. Proven expertise in fleet maintenance and transportation systems. Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry 75 lbs. individually and up to 100 lbs. with other associates. Ability to use stairs and walk on paved and unpaved surfaces. What We Offer:
