This job is eligible for relocation assistance to Colorado Springs. Please note that the starting pay rate for this position is $63.90 followed by a pay adjustment to $67.10 after successfully completing probation (six months). As a Journey Electric Line Specialist at Fort Carson military installation, you will help make decisions for your line crew and elevate Fort Carson to industry best practices. By leveraging relationships, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and using your leadership skills, you will ensure the success of your crew as they work to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the electric distribution system and transformer-fed street lights on Fort Carson. What Else Will You Be Doing? Supporting the construction, maintenance, and installation/removal of underground and overhead power lines and equipment. Primary & Secondary Ensuring quality of work performed in compliance with standard operating policies Setting up & receiving clearances and hotline holds to perform required work Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and work procedures Reviewing technical documents and designs for accuracy Ensuring major projects are being built to our transmission and distribution specifications Helping transition Fort Carson's current operations and maintenance practices to industry best practices Lead your crew in the Foreman's absence (e.g., decision-making, meetings, vacation, standby) and assist the Foreman with job planning as well as provide feedback to the Foreman regarding performance Provide support as a second review for safe work practices Work side-by-side with Line Tech Apprentices or less experienced Line Technicians to help ensure safe work practices and provide training as needed Communicate tactical work plans to your crew Set up and execute outages, hotline holds, clearances, etc. Ensure material is ready and the crew's equipment is ready for job execution What Does It Take To Be Successful? Demonstrated experience as a journey electric lineman Completion of a Line Technician Apprenticeship program Possession of both a valid, unrestricted driver's license and a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required Knowledge of electrical system principles, voltage requirements, equipment, installation, and maintenance is valued Skilled in installing and maintaining electrical distribution and transmission systems Ability to interpret specifications, schematics, and written instructions What You Can Expect Working At Fort Carson: The lead line technician will help lead the team to perform and assist in the activities related to the construction, operations, and maintenance of the Fort Carson electric distribution system and transformer-fed streetlights. Under the Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA), Colorado Springs Utilities will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of Fort Carson's electric gas, and water infrastructure. Pursuant to the IGSA, this position will support operations and maintenance of Fort Carson's existing electric substations, and distribution system up to and including switch gear, transformers, and streetlights fed from transformers by utilities best practices. This position will be part of an electric crew that is responsible for managing the construction and maintenance of new developments, commercial construction, outage response, and providing construction crew oversight in both overhead and underground applications at Fort Carson under the IGSA. You will work onsite at Fort Carson daily but may be called to assist Colorado Springs Utilities' electric transmission and distribution system construction crews during emergencies and storm events. Within this role, you will be part of a team that is responsible for a wide variety of technical duties and will ensure that all activities adhere to Colorado Springs Utilities Safety Rules and Construction Standards. Additionally, the position requires regular interaction with numerous internal and external customers as well as, proficient management resources, equipment, and personnel to ensure the successful completion, performance, and review of the electric work.
