Assist the Captain in operating and navigating the tugboat safely within harbor and coastal waters. Supervise deck crew and coordinate daily operations, including towing, docking, and barge handling. Monitor vessel systems and support routine maintenance and safety checks. Ensure compliance with all U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) regulations and company safety policies. Stand watch and handle navigation responsibilities as required. Assist with recordkeeping, safety drills, and inspections. Qualifications
Valid U.S. Coast Guard Mate license appropriate for towing vessels (Mate of Towing or similar). Minimum 3 years of experience working aboard tugboats. Strong understanding of marine safety, navigation, and towing operations. TWIC card and current Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC). Ability to work effectively under pressure and communicate clearly with crew and supervisors. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Preferred Experience
Experience in the New York Harbor or similar busy ports. Familiarity with barge work, ship assist, and harbor maneuvering. Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Must be able to work on the water for extended shifts and in various weather conditions. Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and move around safely on deck. Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Compensation and Benefits
