Competitive Intelligence Analyst
The Competitive Intelligence Analyst will serve as a pivotal role within the Strategy Team in the Bioprocessing - Process Solutions business. This role is essential for providing external industry perspectives and insights that will guide our Bioprocessing business' strategic priorities and enhance our competitive positioning in the marketplace. You will be part of a high-performing team that is instrumental in driving key business decisions and shaping the future direction of our organization. You will enhance and broaden our competitive intelligence capabilities, providing our partners with relevant, timely, and impactful information. Additionally, you will monitor customer activity to ensure we remain responsive to market dynamics. Your efforts will support the development and execution of robust competitive response strategies to minimize disruption and help us achieve our business goals and objectives. Location: This is a global role, can be remote from anywhere in the US (preferred) or EU. Key Responsibilities: Proactively mine external sources and internal information to uncover trends, emerging threats, and opportunities for the business. Serve as a central resource for gathering and compiling intelligence on competitors, including product portfolios, commercial strategies, financials, M&A activities, pricing, and regional strategies. Monitor customer activity to identify shifts in preferences and behaviors that may impact competitive dynamics. Analyze competitive, market, and regulatory trends to anticipate potential shifts and collaborate with marketing and product franchise leaders to develop effective competitive response strategies. Establish strong, effective relationships with critical business functions (e.g., Franchise leaders, Business Development, Regional Business Leaders, Strategy peers) and vendors. Partner with global internal stakeholders to share knowledge and insights, including but not limited to product managers, commercial partners, and strategy peers, to gather intelligence and position Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany - BioProcessing for success. Who You Are Minimum Qualifications: B.S. degree in life sciences, business, or a related field required. 3-5 years of experience in competitive intelligence, market research, or strategy roles, ideally within the life sciences or bioprocessing sectors. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in a quantitative field is advantageous. Experience in management consulting or a similar analytical role is advantageous. Deep understanding of the bioprocessing market and competitive landscape, with superior analytical skills. Proven experience in strategic analysis, particularly in competitive intelligence. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. High business acumen; experience with financial statements is a plus. Excellent presentation and communication skills: Ability to simplify highly complex analyses to the right level of detail with a bias for action. Capable of compellingly articulating insights and influencing varied audiences across all levels of the organization. Results-driven with strong project management and facilitation skills, including experience managing cross-functional teams. Highly self-motivated with demonstrated agility to multitask, manage time, handle uncertainty, and work under pressure with limited direction. Proficient in computer skills, especially PowerPoint and Excel; experience with digital analytics tools (e.g., Tableau) preferred. Ability to travel 10-20%, including international trips.
