Accountant (Short-term, 4-month contract) The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking an analytical, business professional to join our Accounting team in Springfield, VA. MBN is a non-profit grantee of the federal government that directly communicates with the people of the Middle East and North Africa through television, radio, and digital media. MBN's mission is to provide objective, accurate, and relevant news and information to the people of the Middle East about the region, the world, and the United States in support of U.S. public diplomacy. The Accountant is a short-term contractor position for a period of four months and is responsible for specialized accounting functions of General Ledger Management, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting and Fixed Asset Management. The primary duties and responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to: Prepares journal entries and timely reconciliation of all G/L accounts, ledgers, fixed asset records, expenses, domestic and overseas bank accounts. Identify errors and risks that could have a financial impact on the company's financial statements in accordance with company policies, GAAP and in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley. Prepares special reports and financial studies for management and alerts them to significant variances to plan. Assist in preparation for the annual audit conducted by the external auditors. Coordinates the Fixed Asset process and makes necessary journal entries. Communicate with multiple levels in the organization and escalate issues to appropriate management. Journals daily cash receipts, posting them to appropriate cash accounts. Audits domestic and international payrolls. Records adjustments and re-classes in Cost Point. Oversees the recording of returned wires and fees. Maintains account receivable and liabilities accounts. Records overseas cash activity, bank transfer and fees. Process and record payroll vouchers and travel reimbursements. Manages corporate credit card activity Candidates are required to have: BA/BS in accounting, finance, business, or related field. Advanced knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, cost accounting and general ledger entry process/reconciliation in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of U.S. federal and state financial regulations to include payroll tax laws and wage and hour regulations. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Knowledge and hands-on use of ERP system. Experience with DELTEK Costpoint 7. Knowledge of funds management and budgeting techniques. Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills.
