Manatee County Government is hiring for a position with a salary range of $18.40 to $31.01 per hour. The job is located in Bradenton, FL and is a full-time hourly position. The application period is open until 7/24/2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. The work location is Bishop Animal Shelter, 5718 21st Avenue West, Bradenton, Florida 34209. The job requires working 40 hours per week, with varying schedules based on shelter needs. The expected starting hourly range is $18.40 to $23.00. This role plays a direct role in achieving Manatee County's no-kill mission by providing hands-on care for animals in the shelter, working with internal departments to find homes for the animals, and serving as ambassadors for county residents, volunteers, and adopters. The position contributes to the health, wellbeing, and general care of dogs and cats and serves as a day-to-day connector between the animals in care and the community. The position level and salary are dependent on qualifications. The working conditions include primarily an animal shelter or outdoor field environment, performing moderately strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions, exposure to animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status, high noise environments, lifting and carrying equipment, and periodic high-stress situations. The essential functions include assisting with all aspects of the adoption process, providing excellent customer service, interacting positively with volunteers, greeting visitors, delivering excellent customer service, providing basic and routine care for animals, supporting animals with medical issues, providing socialization and enrichment, cleaning work areas, following policies and procedures, adhering to safety procedures, and attending job-specific training classes. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and one or more years of experience as an Animal Care Specialist or similar position. Previous work or volunteer experience with an animal shelter or similar organization is desired, as well as previous customer service experience. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include the ability to comprehend and follow instructions, resolve routine situations and problems, work with dogs, understand regulatory compliance, use computer applications, and communicate effectively.
