As an Ambulatory Surgical Unit Assistant, you will participate in the delivery of patient care alongside an encouraging and mentoring RN. In this exciting role, you will receive on-the-job training to become familiar with specific department procedures, medical terminology, equipment and sterilization procedures. As assigned, you will assist with numerous tasks throughout the department, whether interacting directly with patients and families, stocking supplies or fulfilling equipment maintenance needs. This position allows you to enhance your skills and explore the beginning of a meaningful career at Cleveland Clinic. A caregiver in this position works 7:30am - 4:00pm. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Escort pre-operative patients to bed space and assist with the pre-operative preparation by orienting the patient and their families to the unit. Label and secure patient belongings, complete vital signs and Accucheck and perform other tasks as assigned by RN. Perform various technical tasks, including set up of IV infusions, application of heat or cold compresses, application of external monitoring devices and removal of urinary catheters, peripheral IVs or NG tubes. Perform equipment/instrument decontamination, inspection, assembly and sterilization. Perform and monitor the sterilization processes used in the procedural areas and complete logs as appropriate. Utilize the instrument tracking systems to monitor equipment and document work completed. Transport properly labeled and packaged specimens as directed. Transport broken equipment, along with completed requisitions, to the designated location for pick-up. Stock equipment and supplies as directed to designated par levels. Assist with maintaining equipment control, replacing parts, sending equipment for repair and obtaining loaner equipment. Sanitize and clean the ORs consistent with procedural areas Environmental Service Standards. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma/GED Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) One year of experience in a healthcare or related environment. Successful completion of basic competencies and Level A CPR Certification within the probationary period. Requires a full range of body motion pulling, lifting, pushing, and transferring patients to and from various apparatus.
