JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Director of English Language Learning provides instructional leadership and program oversight to ensure the effective implementation of literacy instruction across PreK-8 classrooms. This position manages ELA curriculum development, professional learning, and teacher support while also overseeing the English Language Learner (ELL) program to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. The Assistant Director will monitor the integration of research-based literacy strategies to promote data-driven instruction, student ownership of learning, and equitable outcomes for all students.
QUALIFICATIONS: Arizona Elementary Teacher Certification (required) Arizona Administrative Certification Master Degree from an accredited institution Literacy Endorsement

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Literacy and Instructional Leadership Ensure implementation of effective, evidence-based ELA instruction aligned to district and state standards across PreK-8 classrooms. Lead the creation and continuous refinement of a rigorous and vertically aligned ELA scope and sequence that ensures student reading proficiency. Design and deliver professional development in foundational reading skills, comprehension strategies, writing instruction, and differentiated supports. Train instructional leaders and coaches on observation protocols to identify, support, and replicate highly effective ELA instruction. Select and evaluate high-quality instructional materials, ensuring cultural relevance and alignment with literacy goals. Analyze district and school-level assessment data to guide instructional decision-making and improve reading outcomes. English Language Learner (ELL) Program Oversight Manage, coordinate, and monitor implementation of the district's English Language Learning program in accordance with State SEI Model requirements. Monitor ELL student progress using benchmark and language acquisition data to ensure growth toward English proficiency and academic achievement. Coordinate the entry, reclassification, and exit of ELLs based on state language acquisition assessments. Oversee training on the administration of the state language acquisition test and support compliance with testing procedures. Ensure proper implementation of SEI Model variations based on ELL placement and collaborate with school leaders to maintain instructional fidelity. Support schools in grouping ELLs appropriately by grade level and language proficiency. Monitor and verify ELD (English Language Development) schedules, ensuring compliance with models. Ensure ELL classrooms meet state and federal requirements for English-only instruction and alignment to English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS). Support teachers and administrators in evaluating ELD progress and use results to inform instructional planning and program improvements. Train staff in compliance documentation and assist with annual state and federal audits and reporting. Submit reports and data to the Chief Academic Officer, and provide program improvement recommendations as needed. Cross-Functional Leadership and Family Engagement Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Innovation, Special Education, Gifted) to align services and ensure inclusive, high-quality instruction for all learners. Promote and integrate multicultural education throughout curriculum and instruction. Coordinate interpreting and translating services to support effective home-school communication and parent engagement.
Compliance, Innovation, and Program Development Ensure all aspects of the ELA and ELL programs meet local, state, and federal compliance requirements. Seek and integrate innovative practices, to enhance teaching, personalize learning, and streamline data use. Conduct ongoing program evaluations and support continuous improvement efforts.
