General Description And Purpose Of Position
Provides support and advocacy for the Districts K-12 visual and performing arts educators, students, programs and facilities. Under the supervision of the BSD Director of Visual & Performing Arts, promotes the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board policies, administrative procedures, rules/regulations, and applicable law by providing initiatives that lead to program enhancement. Ensures the professional development of K-12 VPA educators.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Advocacy/support for BSD K-12 VPA with a specialized focus in the visual and performing arts.
- Program development/improvement of the VPA unit with a focus in the area of professional training.
- Implements orientation and professional development for K-12 VPA educators that is in accordance with district policies and accreditation agencies.
- Works in a team to ensure strong VPA performance outcomes.
- Works with educators and staff to align VPA K-12 curriculum.
- Observes and enhances communication structures between schools and VPA content areas.
- Adheres to and promotes a culture of balance in all areas of VPA.
- Implements and maintains the VPA Strategic Plan.
- Works alongside the Ex. Directors of Elementary, Middle-level, and Secondary Education and the Director of VPA to establish strategic arts partners in the arts.
- Observes current trends and best practices in the arts.
- Participates in annual equipment audits and assists with the oversight of equipment and supplies.
- Works in tandem with the Dir of VPA toward the cultivation of initiatives, equity and consistency in all VPA programs.
- Works with the Dir of VPA to refine the focus on strategic spending and accountability.
- Scheduling for BSD Arts Centers synchronized with District mode of operation as outlined by BSD procedures and agreements.
- Oversight of educational programming, facilities, equipment, event production, public relations, usage guidelines, internships, volunteer program for BSD Arts Centers.
- Work with both the DirVPA and the Arts Centers Tech Directors to guide the annual supply and equipment budget for BSD Arts Centers.
- Advocates for VPA educational excellence in a comprehensive student education.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Senior Administrative team as designated by the Superintendent of Schools.
KEY POINTS OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND MENTAL ABILITY
- Breadth and depth of knowledge in the arts with specialization in dance, debate/forensics, general music, band, choir, orchestra, theatre, visual art or other field in VPA
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy to include differentiation and inclusion practices.
- Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff development.
- Effective communication skills (written and oral) with students, educators, staff, and the community.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions/inquiries.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Ability to problem-solve and to deal with a variety of professional situations.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Possess solid emotional judgement.
- Ability to develop, implement, and maintain a strong vision/mission for VPA program(s).
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and work with conflicting time constraints.
- Ability to self-evaluate in leadership, performance, and professional growth.
- Master degree (or equivalent professional experience) in education and/or a visual/performing arts area
- Undergraduate and Graduate degree from an accredited higher education institution
- Valid Arkansas Teaching Licensure
- Three (3) years of school administration preferred
- Ten (10) years teaching experience in visual and performing arts with exemplary success preferred
- Broad knowledge of such elements as advanced audio/video or marketing would also prove to be valuable assets.
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy machines, fax systems, and telephone.
- Travel to District buildings, competitions, performances, and professional meetings required.
