High School Assistant Principal
12-Month Position
Position to Start: ASAP
Overbrook High School, within the Pine Hill School District, is searching for an Assistant Principal to join our administrative team and our compassionate and dedicated staff.
Qualifications: Must hold New Jersey Principal standard or eligibility certification Minimum five years of teaching experience Demonstrated leadership capability in the areas of instruction and staff development Strong interpersonal and communication skills Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver, or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment High School teaching/administrative experience preferred
Reports to:
Principal/Superintendent
Supervises:
All certified and noncertified school staff as assigned by, or in the absence of, the principal.
Job Goal:
To assist the principal in providing school-wide leadership and building relationships with
students and families to maintain a positive school culture and climate.
Responsibilities that pertain to this position at the High School Level:
School Leadership Assists the principal in duties related to instruction, supervision, evaluation, and the overall administration of the school Serves as building administrator in the absence of the principal Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment, conducts inventories, maintains records, and reviews receipts and purchase orders for such material Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities Assists the principal in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services Greets and interacts with parents and visitors
Student discipline, supervision of students Assists in maintaining high standards of student conduct and enforcing discipline policies - assigned to be the disciplinarian for half of the student population Assists in positive recognition of students Assists in the supervision of the cafeteria during lunch hours Provides guidance to individual students and resolves individual behavioral problems Disciplinarian for the MD Program Communicates with parents and guardians upon assignment of discipline, for positive recognition or for general concerns
Record-keeping, reporting and scheduling Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the attendance secretary for investigative follow-up actions Assists in the preparation of required reports of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and possession of firearms Performs such record-keeping and reporting functions as the principal may direct Assists in the development of the master schedule and duty schedules
Interaction with school staff Supervises teachers and departments as assigned by the principal, including performing the following tasks: Teacher Evaluation, Curricular Oversight, Professional Development Planning Supervises extracurricular programs, assembly programs, and assignment of faculty members to assist at school functions Assists in the coordination and supervision of special programs funded by the state or federal government Makes recommendations to the principal for changes in policies, personnel practices and other such matters that may result in a more effective school administration
Other Planning and oversight of summer programming Supervision of evening events and overnight field trips Planning and oversight of school events as assigned by the principal Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the principal or superintendent
Terms of Employment:
Twelve-month year. Salary established by the Board of Education.
Annual Evaluation:
The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with NJ State law and the provisions of the board's policy on the evaluation of certified
staff.
