MedStar Health General Summary Of Position
The primary liaison between Patient Access Services (PAS) and the various departments throughout the Hospital in the availability of beds to ensure the prompt and accurate placement/assignment of patients into a bed/unit. Works with Nursing and other clinical departments in determining the best placement of a patient with regard to the patient's clinical needs and the availability of services. Coordinates and directs activities and personnel within the Capacity Management Department. General Summary Of Position
The primary liaison between Patient Access Services (PAS) and the various departments throughout the Hospital in the availability of beds to ensure the prompt and accurate placement/assignment of patients into a bed/unit. Works with Nursing and other clinical departments in determining the best placement of a patient with regard to the patient's clinical needs and the availability of services. Coordinates and directs activities and personnel within the Capacity Management Department.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Acts as liaison between PAS and physicians and other WHC departments to facilitate the prompt and accurate assignment of patients into beds, resolve operational issues, and make recommendations to improve access to WHC. Assumes supervision and management of the Clinical Bed Coordinators and the Patient Placement Representatives the execution of their primary duties and responsibilities. Builds trusting collaborative relationships with all members of the health care environment. Develops and presents in-services/educational programs for the Division of Nursing, DES, and other department personnel with the goal of fostering better communication and collaboration and improved bed placement/assignment. In consultation with the Nursing Director, hires, evaluates, coaches, mentors, develops, promotes disciplines, and when necessary terminates to achieve behaviors aligned with the organization's vision, mission, and values. Attends meetings/huddles and participates on committees, task forces, and projects as required. Maintains the current bed status on all beds. Updates Medicare Bed Report as needed with the current bed count. Assists Finance and the Administrative Resident with the annual bed reports. Updates/maintains electronic bed board to reflect current bed count. Updates daily census grids as needed. Works with nursing leadership to determine availability of bed(s) on the Units, balancing unit census, patient acuity, and staff availability to meet patient's needs. Works with DES leadership to ensure the patient room is turned over in a timely manner and cleaned upon the patient's discharge, as well as to prioritize required unit maintenance. Works with other departments to secure any services and ensure their availability upon the patient's arrival to the unit. Identifies, recommends, and develops/implements processes for improvement in access. Develops systems, procedures, and/or policies with the various departments throughout WHC to facilitate communication and expeditious patient placement. In consultation with the Nursing Director, develops, implements, and evaluates departmental goals that support the nursing strategic plan. Ensures compliance with department, divisional and hospital policies, procedures, regulatory agencies and takes corrective action when deficiencies occur. Generates and analyzes reports on bed assignment(s), turnover time, etc. and gives recommendations to improve service/ access. Monitors and analyzes departmental performance data and identifies and participates in performance improvement opportunities. Maintains own knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of nursing management, and bed management by reading literature and attending related seminars and conferences. Provides clinical leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors and maintain role accountabilities at the level of the staff. Creates a professional atmosphere and an environment of coaching and development of staff, where professional and personal growth is an expectation. Serves as a change agent, assisting others in understanding the importance, necessity, impact, and process of change. Integrates high ethical standards and core values into everyday activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
Experience
5-7 years of progressively more responsible job related nursing experience exhibiting strong clinical skills and the ability to manage/coordinate effectively the work of non subordinates required Bed utilization experience required
Licenses and Certifications
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
This position has a hiring range of $87,318 - $157,289 Seniority level
