The Community Climate Risk Assessment Program (RAP) seeks a scientist or engineer to lead Coastal Inundation and Erosion Risk Assessments with Alaska Native communities facing climate change. This position manages projects supporting long-term planning, infrastructure site selection, and design in coastal environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Alaskan coastal engineering, oceanography, inundation, sea level rise, sediment transport, flood and erosion monitoring, and resilience research. The job title may be adjusted to Climate Adaptation Engineering Project Manager if appropriate. Summary Under general supervision, provides planning, project development, and management services to help Alaska communities adapt to climate change. Responsibilities Supports communities in developing and implementing climate adaptation and hazard mitigation projects in collaboration with federal, state, and tribal partners. Supports community planning, including strategies, adaptation plans, and integration into other planning efforts. Develops and manages community climate projects, including assessments, data collection, analysis, and monitoring. Acts as technical liaison, providing science and planning recommendations, technical assistance, and guidance on project activities. Collaborates with communities to understand needs, develop scopes of work, and secure funding. Prepares project work plans, manages contracts, monitors progress, and ensures quality control. Develops and manages project budgets, reviews contracts, and oversees project closeout activities. Supports leadership in achieving organizational goals and performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental or earth sciences, planning, economics, or related field; relevant experience may substitute for education. 2+ years for Project Manager I, 5+ years for Project Manager II, 8+ years for Project Manager III in planning, project management, or related fields; experience in rural Alaska preferred. Supervisory experience required for Project Manager III. Preferred Master’s degree in relevant fields and specialized training in climate adaptation and hazard mitigation.
