Control Room Manager
Reporting to the Manager, Operations, NSCC, the Control Room Manager will assist in leading and directing the National System Control Center (NSCC) team to achieve safe and efficient remote operation and monitoring of Brookfield US Operations generating assets.
Responsibilities: Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the NSCC and providing direct supervision to the control room. Track operational incidents and provide support for incident investigation and follow-up. Support compliance of applicable regulatory requirements. Support the Training Coordinator in the administration and continuous improvement of multifaceted training programs for system control personnel. Represent the NSCC and participate in regional meetings and other functions. Lead change and improvement initiatives for the NSCC. Drive the development and/or implementation of new or revised policies or procedures for NSCC staff. Provide guidance and support in implementing the NSCC Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Management System in control center activities. Practice safe work habits and follow prescribed procedures and policies to ensure the continued safety of all personnel and stakeholders impacted by remote operation of the assets. Practice work habits and follow established policies and procedures to ensure that the environmental impacts of the remote operation of the assets are minimized. Coordination with regional leadership to address issues and support or drive company initiatives. Provide leadership values and ethics in accordance with Brookfield policies and drive the professional development of NSCC personnel. Liaison between NSCC and Field management personnel to develop and maintain a culture of one team. Provide management support to other members of the NSCC Management team. Perform other tasks as requested by NSCC Operations Management. Up to 10% overnight travel within the North America Operations platform after an initial period of more frequent travel for training purposes.
Requirements: Ability to lead a team consisting of rotating shifts. Available for calls on a 24/7 basis, with ability to lead in emergency situations. Forward thinking manager with ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast paced environment; ability to adapt quickly and deal with change in a positive manner. Strong leadership skills and ability to be self-directed regarding learning and discovery; a desire to achieve higher levels of management capability over time. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including members of the public. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and planning/scheduling abilities.
Qualifications: Proven experience in leading teams. Minimum two-year degree in Electrical Technology/Engineering or other type of technical/engineering degree, or comparable work experience. Experience in an advanced control room environment related to power generation. Preferably in Hydro operations. Has experience operating in a control center environment, preferably having qualified as a System Operator and a Shift Supervisor. Ability and willingness to develop in leadership skills Familiarity and experience with advanced safety and environmental management programs. Advanced computer skills, including experience in SCADA system operations. Advanced knowledge of AC electrical generation and high voltage transmission processes. Experience and knowledge related to regulatory compliance. Physical ability to travel over rough/natural terrain to visit assets is required.
Salary Range: $110,000-$125,000 per year with a specified bonus
