The Reservation Technology team, part of Book-to-Trip organization at Expedia is responsible for making Air, Hotel and Vacation Rental reservations originating from all point of sales in EG. We’re seeking a visionary Director of Software Development Engineering to lead the Air Reservations backend team . This leader will drive the evolution of our product, built on cloud-native platform—and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of booking and post-booking air travel experiences, a space ripe for innovation in the online travel industry.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and scale globally distributed engineering teams responsible for the Air Reservation platform

• Drive the technical strategy and execution for air booking and post-booking services, ensuring reliability, scalability, and innovation

• Collaborate with product, business, and partner teams to define and deliver a unified reservation experience across product lines

• Influence and contribute to the long-term vision of a product-agnostic reservation system

• Serve as a thought leader in the Book-to-Trip organization, helping define industry standards and solving complex challenges in air travel servicing

• Attract, mentor, and grow engineering leaders and individual contributors, fostering a high-performance, inclusive culture

• Translate strategic goals into actionable roadmaps and quarterly OKRs, ensuring alignment with business outcomes

• Represent the engineering organization with executive presence, communicating vision, progress, and impact effectively

Experience and Qualifications:

• You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• You have 12+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years experience managing teams

• You have a proven experience managing multiple engineering managers and teams (30+ engineers), including capacity planning and cross-functional program delivery

• You have strong technical acumen across backend systems, cloud infrastructure (especially AWS), and database technologies

• You have demonstrated the ability to influence architectural decisions and guide teams through complex technical trade-offs

• You have experience building and scaling high-performing teams, mentoring leaders, and fostering career growth

• You have a track record of delivering impactful solutions across multiple product lines or business units

• You have the ability to thrive in ambiguity, bring clarity to teams, and drive operational excellence across engineering and product metric

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $224,000.00 to $313,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $358,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
