Director, Warehouse Automation Home Locations (Not Open for Remote): Arcadia, WI; Advance, NC; Ecru, MS Reports To: VP, Innovation The Director of Warehouse Automation is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems and processes within the warehouse operations. This role will be instrumental in driving operational excellence through technological advancement and process automation. Key Responsibilities Automation Strategy:
Develop and execute the automation strategy across warehouses, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and robotics solutions. Business Case Development:
Work with business leaders to develop viable business cases including ROI scenarios, cost avoidance measures and soft/indirect benefits of automation System Implementation:
Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of automation systems, including AGVs, AMRs, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), and conveyor systems. Process Optimization:
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement automation solutions to streamline warehouse operations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities that drive efficiency and reduce operational costs. Project Management:
Lead automation projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget. Innovation:
Identify and implement emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage Team Leadership:
Build, manage and mentor a team of automation engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Vendor Management:
Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to source and implement the best automation technologies. Data Analysis:
Utilize data analytics to monitor the performance of automated systems and make data-driven decisions to enhance efficiency. Training and Development : Develop and deliver training programs to ensure staff are proficient in using automated systems. Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all automation systems comply with safety regulations and industry standards. Reporting:
Prepare and present regular reports on automation initiatives, performance metrics, and project status to senior management. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial), or related field (Masters preferred). Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in warehouse operations, with at least 5 years in automation. Proven track record of successfully implementing warehouse automation projects whether end to end systems or spot solutions Experience or exposure to custom automation solutions vs. off-shelf systems Good understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS), warehouse control systems (WCS), and their integration with automation systems. Experience with robotics, controls systems, PLC programming, AI, loT and machine learning technologies. Excellent project management and leadership skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners. Ability to analyze complex data and develop actionable plans. Preferred Certifications Specific Technologies Used: Warehouse Management Systems (WMS): Software solutions for inventory management and process automation. Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs): Robots for transporting goods within the warehouse. Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV): Robots for transporting goods within the warehouse that follow defined path. Conveyor Systems: Automated conveyor belts for efficient material handling. Internet of Things (IoT) Devices: Sensors and devices for real-time data collection and monitoring. Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI-driven analytics for optimizing warehouse operations. Robotic Process Automation (RPA): Software robots for automating repetitive tasks. Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS): Systems for automated storage and retrieval of goods This position may require travel to various warehouse sites.
