Location: Hybrid - Michigan (Warren) or APG, MD
VES, LLC is currently seeking a
motivated recent college graduate
to join our team as an
Entry-Level Linux Systems Engineer
supporting the
development of customized spins of the Ground Vehicle Operating System (GVOS)
for U.S. Army ground combat platforms. GVOS is based on
Wind River Linux (WRL) and the Yocto Project , and this role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in
embedded Linux development
while working alongside experienced engineers on mission-critical defense projects.
General Job Duties: Assist in
developing, configuring, and maintaining
customized
Yocto-based Linux distributions . Contribute to
kernel configuration, bootloader modifications, and OS-level optimizations . Write and maintain
scripts
for system initialization, peripheral control, and automation. Debug and troubleshoot
low-level system issues , working with senior engineers. Support the integration of OS components into Army ground combat platforms. Participate in
code reviews, unit testing, and software validation efforts . Develop technical documentation for system configurations and development processes. Desired Requirements:
Strong foundational knowledge of
Linux system architecture
and
operating system fundamentals . Familiarity with
Yocto Project
and
Linux build systems
(e.g., BitBake, OpenEmbedded). Proficiency in
Bash scripting
and experience with
Python or C/C++ . Understanding of
kernel modules, bootloaders, and device drivers
(academic or project-based experience preferred). Interest in
real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded systems, and low-level programming . Ability to learn quickly and work
collaboratively
within a team. Security clearance eligibility (preferred but not required at entry level). Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree
in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Internship, research project, or coursework
