As a people manager, lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians responsible for developing, configuring, and maintaining Flight Test Instrumentation systems, Ground Controls Stations & Software Tools used within the Flight Test Department. Lead the development of processes for the design, installation, maintenance and configuration control of all Flight Test Instrumentation across the Joby flight test fleet. Oversee the design of all flight test specific hardware and software that supports the developmental and certification flight test programs. Guide the architecture of processes and software tools to help smooth the transition from developmental flight testing into certification flight testing. Foster innovation by evaluating and integrating new technologies into the Flight Test Department. Manage project schedules, resources and budgets for Flight Test Instrumentation, Ground Control Station and Software Tool deliverables. Required
Bachelor of Science (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other technical field). 10+ years of experience as an engineer intimately involved in design, implementation, or utilization of instrumentation systems and/or software tools in experimental flight testing. Demonstrated experience in training and mentoring technical personnel. Extensive experience in the following areas with expert-level proficiency in at least one of them: Flight Test Instrumentation System Instrumentation systems design and implementation on experimental aircraft. Data acquisition hardware, telemetry operations, and industry standards. Maintenance of FTI systems and sensors. Software Tool Software development for engineering applications, real-time data systems, and data analysis tools. Programming languages such as Python (extensive experience required), C++, Javascript, and Matlab. Data manipulation, including large-scale data changes in formats like YAML. General software packages, languages, and libraries such as Angular, SQL, and Git. Experience with flight test configuration management processes. 3D design experience Proven ability to create comprehensive procedures and reports. Experience working with ground and flight test teams across various categories of aircraft. Excellent verbal and technical writing skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. A proactive team player who maintains a strong sense of urgency in communications and actions. Desired
Experience in using LabView. Demonstrated experience in building, leading, and managing technical teams, particularly in instrumentation and/or software development domains. FAA Part 23/25/29 or equivalent EASA certification experience and knowledge. Knowledge and experience with the certification of air data systems. Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $160,500 - $214,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
