A San Francisco-based early stage online marketplace founded by a repeat entrepreneur behind multiple successful Bay Area tech companies, is seeking a Head of Machine Learning to lead the development and deployment of advanced learning systems. This is a rare opportunity to shape the ML roadmap of a high-growth startup early on.

Job Title: Head of Machine Learning

Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $225k - $250k + Meaningful Equity

Role Overview:

As the Head of Machine Learning, you will be responsible for overseeing the architecture, experimentation, and scaling of machine learning systems that directly influence user engagement, personalization, and revenue. You’ll lead a growing team of engineers and data scientists while remaining hands-on with key technical decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the end-to-end machine learning strategy, from research to deployment
• Build and lead a high-performing ML team, fostering a strong culture of experimentation and ownership
• Design and scale real-time recommendation engines, ranking algorithms, and dynamic pricing models
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and executive leadership to align ML efforts with company goals
• Drive the adoption of best practices in ML infrastructure, experimentation, and model monitoring
• Experience deploying or integrating LLMs (e.g., GPT, Llama) in product settings
• Agentic systems experience (e.g., LangChain, custom wrappers, tool usage, memory/state management)
