In this role, you will work closely with our infrastructure software engineers and application development teams to ensure our platform is available and performant for our customers. As a member of the critical Technical Operations team, you will apply industry best practices to automate the provisioning, patching, and monitoring of all production systems. This is a great opportunity to make an impactful and recognizable difference in the real estate industry.
We are looking for an individual who is comfortable participating on an on-call rotation about once every three months lasting one week per rotation. This is swappable within the team, we support each other for instances where PTO, emergencies, or short instances of unavailability arise.
You'll be surrounded by a strong team with a proven track record of mentoring and growing engineers.
Your responsibilities:
- Handle systems administration of Linux and Windows hosts in a controlled, disciplined manner with operational security top of mind
- Develop and maintain automation, where possible, to eliminate manual processes to ensure maximum operational uptime utilizing Terraform, Ansible, and Cloudformation
- Provision, configure, and maintain Cloud (Amazon VPC) and VMWare virtual networks
- Install, maintain, and ensure the reliability and security of system software, OS patch management, third party products, and server hardware infrastructure components
- Write tools and scripts to provide automation and self-service solutions for other teams utilizing languages such as Python, Golang, or Powershell
- Assist in designing, provisioning, and maintaining solutions for observability, orchestration, and provisioning utilizing tools such as New Relic , Terraform, Cloudformation and Ansible
- Analyze and resolve problems associated with key infrastructure components including servers, databases, CI tools, applications, and software
- Overcommunicate with any stakeholders, management, and/or teams
- Partner with engineering teams to provide operational enablement
- Maintain highly performant, stable, and scalable environments
- 3+ years minimum systems administration experience Windows 2012/2019/Linux and networking fundamentals. Linux, primarily, Ubuntu and Amazon Linux distributions
- You have a demonstrable ability to overcommunicate consistently and effectively
- Production experience in a highly available environment with orchestration/configuration management tools like Terraform/Ansible & Python/Powershell scripting
- Production experience with one or more hypervisor products (VMware ESX, Xen, HyperV, etc.)
- Knowledge of Windows Server components (Active Directory, DNS, etc.)
- Experience running production workloads in a major cloud platform (AWS, GCE, Azure)
- You've worked within a hybrid environment - cloud and managed data center, especially with VMWare
- You have certifications for any applicable technology highlighted above
- Any coding experience is also a plus, as you will be working in a SaaS environment, directly with engineering teams; being able to speak the language and understand the process is helpful
- Familiarize yourself with the existing BoldTrail and related application/network infrastructure via team meetings and platform access
- Assess uptime/health metrics and set improvement targets if needed
- Familiarize yourself with current AWS ecosystem to understand scope, application requirements , identify current bottlenecks and areas for improvement
- Attend Inside Real Estate technical meetings with teams to familiarize yourself with the various product offerings IRE provides its clients
- Familiarize yourself with Incident Alerting Systems (New Relic,, Splunk On-Call/OpsGenie) to understand incident management response process
- Begin on-call rotation with the TechOps team members ensuring that proper communication is taking place, escalating if required and working problems to resolution when incidents occur
- Work with the TechOps team starting to configure/provision infrastructure, provision alert conditions/metrics to meet project level commitments and support the Engineering team
- Begin working with infrastructure automation tools Terraform/Ansible to orchestrate highly scalable/available infrastructure
- Work with a development team to understand their needs and leverage your expertise to collaborate on solutions
- Attend development team standups regularly to assist with current and upcoming projects to ensure that we are making sound infrastructure and operational decisions to maintain proper uptime and availability for the Inside Real Estate customers
- Meet established uptime/health metrics maintain proper alert conditions to ensure all services are monitored and alerted on appropriately
