Job Title: Anesthesia Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Anesthesia Duration: 12 months Shift: 1st Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of patient-related care experience or completion of two (2) years as an Anesthesia aide along with one (1) year of Anesthesia tech progression training. License: Required education - High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred education - Associate degree from an accredited allied health field. Certifications: Required - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent. Must-Have: - Assists the anesthesia providers with intubation procedures. - Assists in peripheral IV, arterial, central venous, and catheter placement using appropriate sterile technique. - Configures monitors for optimal numeric data and waveform interpretation. - Assists with the monitoring and transport of patients with established invasive lines or ventilation needs. - Connects and performs basic functions of various anesthesia equipment. - Attends and maintains annual competencies related to all anesthesia equipment. - Remains alert to any abnormal conditions within the surgical environment. - Performs blood analysis such as blood gases and electrolytes. - Draws arterial and venous blood samples for lab analysis. - Accurately transcribes all lab results on appropriate documents. - Documents values per department policy. - Performs inspection, testing, and cleaning of patient care equipment. - Attends and actively participates in team huddles and meetings. - Rounds on assigned rooms during the shift. - Distributes supplies during room turnovers. Description: The Anesthesia Technician assists with direct patient care activities. They support the Anesthesia Providers during the delivery of anesthesia. Working in the operating room, they provide technical services to the anesthesia team. Key responsibilities include assisting with intubation procedures and patient positioning. They may also manually ventilate a patient under guidance. The technician helps with the setup and inspection of patient care equipment. They connect anesthesia-related monitors and troubleshoot under supervision. Attention to abnormal conditions within the surgical environment is crucial. They are responsible for conducting blood analysis and labeling samples accurately. Documentation of values and blood lab results is part of their role. Performing inspections and cleaning of equipment is required. Participation in daily team huddles and meetings is expected. They will round on assigned rooms and support room turnovers and finals.
