Driver Lead CDL A - Full Time
Location: Brooklyn Park, MN
$31 per hour
Safety
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform and Monitor all CDL Drivers to ensure daily shift safety activities are taking place to include Driver Stretching and Pre/Post-Trip Truck Inspections.
- Assist Branch Manager and Distribution Supervisor with investigation on all Driver accidents and injuries. Partner with Branch Manager on accountability requirements.
- Co-chair (with Branch Manager) regular driver meetings to review safety processes, company safety incidences, and upcoming branch events (minimum of once per month).
- Perform training for new Temp and Outsourced Drivers to include truck, lift gate, and driver operational processes. Also, ensure they have all required documents to meet DOT inspection requirements (CDL license, medical card, truck insurance, log book) prior to departing the branch.
- Point Of Contact for difficult deliveries, which include stair/ramp deliveries and ensure systemic notes are added proactively to reflect delivery/pick-up obstacles.
- Monitor performance of all drivers to ensure that maximum productivity and performance levels are maintained and all driver procedures are being followed.
- Work with the Branch Manager (BM) / Warehouse Supervisor (WS) to perform duties as Branch Fleet Dispatcher to coordinate dispatching of all CDL drivers to accomplish scheduled deliveries and pick-ups using either the legacy CIS system or the new OTM (Oracle Transportation Management) System.
- Communicate with National Transportation Specialists (NTS) to implement all approved schedule changes. Coordinate changes within the branch to ensure all changed deliveries and pick-ups occur.
- Ability to plan for peak needs.
- Utilize information provide by NTS and the Branch Manager to plan for future needs.
- Serve as liaison with truck rental companies to reserve and return rental trucks as needed.
- Serve as liaison with Temp Driver companies and/or Outsource Companies to schedule services.
- Provide Temp Driver CDL credentials to Lake Mary Transportation Office and Branch Secretary prior to Temp Driver being used.
- Coordinate training in advance of needs with Temp Drivers and/or Outsource Companies.
- Provide performance feedback to BM/WS as well as the Temp Drivers and/or Outsource Companies
- Monitor fleet reports to insure all PM s and repairs are performed as scheduled.
- Work with the Branch Manager and NTS to implement emergency schedule changes due to unforeseen events such as accidents, injuries, breakdowns, late routes, etc.
- Effectively communicate necessary routing information to assist NTS with routing improvements and driver feedback.
- Act as reserve DOT driver, to be used in all cases when necessary, during peak times, or in any emergency. Adhere to all Company, local, state and federal rules/regulations inclusive of, but not limited to DOT, OSHA, and EEOC.
- Assist the Branch Manager in interviewing all prospective drivers and the completion of driver ride-along/performance evaluations.
- Train CDL Drivers in company procedures, to include but not limited to, proper safety precautions, acceptable uniform wear, proper verbal delivery presentation to customer, and how to receive a damage free book fair.
- Review for accuracy: trip sheets, fuel tickets, road expenses, any driver DOT log books, and other paperwork, etc. prior to forwarding them to the Branch Manager. Provide feedback to drivers in order to promote improved accuracy and completeness of documents
- Assist, when necessary, in loading/unloading trucks and other warehouse tasks as required, with or without assistance of mechanical devices.
- Call the Branch Manager/Warehouse Supervisor immediately upon the occurrence of any of the following:
- Accident or damage to person(s) or property.
- Problem with a school delivery or pick-up.
- Mechanical failure of equipment.
- Accident or damage to person(s) or property.
- Maintain good grooming and personal hygiene habits; wear and maintain Company uniforms.
- Utilize proper techniques for lifting, packing, and handling heavy objects, climbing ladders and pushing/pulling display cases.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment.
- Maintain trucks per company standards.
- Regular attendance in accordance with schedule.
- Drug and alcohol free policy compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
To support safe driving practices, Scholastic utilizes on-board truck cameras in our commercial vehicles. The camera system provides feedback on vehicle and operating conditions in real time and records data for training purposes. Scholastic drivers are provided with training on this equipment and asked to provide consent to be recorded.
What we need:
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
- Verifiable commercial driving experience of at least one (1) year required.
- Minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Possess valid CDL A license with air brake endorsement. Must possess 40,000 miles driving experience on CDL A
- CDL A must be validated through recertification with an approved Driving School
- Must pass a drug screen/alcohol screen, Motor Vehicle Record review, criminal background review, and a DOT physical examination indicating physical essential functions of job can be performed as required.
- Must be able to drive vehicle weighing in excess of 26,001 GVW and trailers in excess of 10,000 lbs. with a total combined GVW up to 80,000 lbs.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 70 lbs. and push, pull, lift and handle metal/plastic cases weighing more than 350lbs on a regular and repetitive basis. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- The FMCSA requires commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers to be able to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records.
