Base pay range
$155,000.00/yr - $165,000.00/yr Direct message the job poster from X4 Engineering Seeking a Lead Protection & Controls Engineer to oversee technical execution and quality of protection and control systems within substation EPC projects. This role is key to building an in-house engineering team and transitioning from third-party reliance. The engineer will lead electrical design, provide oversight of vendor deliverables, support construction teams, and drive standardization across projects. Key Responsibilities: Lead electrical scope execution, design, and change management for substation projects Serve as engineer of record, managing system studies, equipment specs, layouts, and schematics Coordinate with internal EPC teams and clients on RFIs, reviews, procurement, and construction support Oversee third-party engineers and help establish internal engineering standards and templates Mentor junior engineers and foster high-performance technical teams Qualifications: B.S. in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years in substation or power generation projects Strong background in protective relays, arc flash, grounding, load flow, and electrical equipment sizing Familiar with relevant standards (ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC) and protective device coordination Skilled in relay programming and power system analysis tools Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities Preferred: PE license, client/owner-side experience, and familiarity with construction, procurement, and estimating Experience with Aconex and proposal development is a plus This is a full time, on-site position in the heart of Kansas City Metro area.
