Job Overview
The Managing Director of GUMC Advancement Operations and Strategic Engagement reports to the Vice President for the Georgetown University Medical Center Advancement (GUMC VP). The Managing Director is a senior leader for GUMC Development, guiding and advising on operational tactics and processes through to implementation, while also managing the overarching engagement strategies for the GUMC with both internal and external constituents.
As a critical thought partner to the VP, the Managing Director will assist in the creation, planning, and execution of top strategic and operational priorities for GUMC Advancement. They will manage key projects and build processes when necessary, assist the GUMC VP in the day-to-day oversight of the GUMC Adv team’s activities, as well as manage the team’s budget oversight and spending discretion.
The Managing Director will work to enhance and accelerate the Office of the VP, the entire Medical Development team and the partnership with Central Advancement, with the ultimate goal of efficient and effective fundraising work leading to the highest level of philanthropic partnerships. Highly collaborative in nature, the Managing Director will advise on the priorities of the Office of the GUMC VP, working with the VP and the Executive Leadership team to implement advancement strategies for the Medical Center and, guiding on initiatives and best practices meant to propel the work of research, communication and stewardship. The Managing Director will also help tactically lead the deployment of GUMC principals and advance the work of the VP of GUMC Advancement’s portfolio.
Another key component of this role is oversight of the direction and tactical execution of GUMC Constituent engagement strategies, including strategies for community engagement, corporate engagement and giving and volunteer leadership engagement. This role will be highly collaborative; interacting with colleagues from the office of the Executive Vice President for GUMC, MedStar, University campus, and external constituents - all to strengthen, extend and leverage ties with critical stakeholders.
The Managing Director will directly manage the Director of Development, GUMC Special Events. The Director of Development, GUMC Special Events, is a frontline fundraiser whose portfolio is primarily corporate sponsors and high-level volunteers. The Managing Director will also work closely with the Senior Director, Board and Community Engagement to establish the GUMC Leadership Board and collaborate to create an engagement strategy to steward Board members throughout the year. The Managing Director will be expected to grow the team according to the Medical Center’s needs and budget feasibility, especially regarding resources to support GUMC Advancement stewardship and communications. The Managing Director is responsible for effectively managing and motivating the performance of this team to meet its fundraising and engagement goals and metrics, including strong and effective engagement, portfolio moves management, data integrity, clear and transparent communication and efficient and effective fundraising and stewardship work. The Managing Director will also serve in an advisory role to broader GUMC and University colleagues, including the Office of the Vice President for the GUMC and the Secretary of the University.
Work Interactions
This role will collaborate frequently with the Office of the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences and Executive Dean School of Medicine and their senior staff. The position will also work closely as a GUMC Advancement resource to colleagues across Georgetown’s campus and within the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. This position will also collaborate with the centralized Office of Advancement teams, including Stewardship, Communications, Annual Fund, Alumni Engagement, DATA, Prospect Management, Revenue Management, Campaign Operations, Special Events, Donor Events and Engagement.

Requirements And Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience At least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in strategic planning, non-profit management, higher education advancement, project management, communications, or a related field, with at least five years at a senior-level management role Ability to manage, with discretion, confidential material and matters. Flexibility, efficiency, and the ability to interpret and react immediately in pressure situations Familiarity with fundraising in the fields of either higher education, health care or research Proven track record of success in spearheading strategic initiatives and driving innovation in a complex setting Ability to coordinate the work of fundraising with the university’s academic operation and financial priorities. Outstanding written and verbal communication and ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at different levels within the organization Strong understanding of financial concepts and budgeting principles. Demonstrated ability in project management and process improvement with a collaborative, team-oriented, and influential leadership style Demonstrated experience in effective and successful organizational change management
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree An interest in and knowledge of healthcare and higher education systems People management skills and experience Previous work in a higher education setting or another similarly complex organization Experience managing budgets, preferably with a University and Academic program Previous Volunteer management or direct fundraising experience Experience managing a budget

Pay Range
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$103,723.00 - $202,778.93
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
