This position qualifies for a $10,000 commitment incentive which will be paid over a two (2) year work commitment. Standard hours: Two 8-hour shifts every other weekend, 11:30pm to 8am. (Friday night 11:30p to Saturday morning 8am and Saturday night 11:30p to Sunday morning 8am) Summary: Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of the clinical activities in the UNCHCS. The Core Laboratory is comprised of multiple testing areas- Chemistry, Toxicology, Blood Gas Analysis, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Automated Hematology and Manual Hematology, including Smear Review and Body Fluid Analysis, and Specimen Processing. Responsibilities: Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow. May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments. May perform teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees. May serve as a technical resource. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory. Performs routine and less standardized test procedures which include special chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic laboratory tests. Observes tests and reactions and provides data. Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required. Reports results to healthcare providers. Consults/confers with health care providers regarding test results. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors. Other Information: Education Requirements: Requires Bachelor's of Science degree. Must meet eligibility requirements upon hire to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Must become MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certified within 12 months of hire. Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience is required.
