Works collaboratively with the Medical Director of the Henry Ford Health Center for Vision Rehabilitation to provide individuals with vision impairment opportunities for increased safety, independence, and quality of life via world-class low vision care while achieving office productivity and performance goals. Directly reports to the Chair, Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Care Services. Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive low vision consultations and case management. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including occupational therapists at HFH Center for Vision Rehabilitation, and other vision rehabilitation professionals such as agencies for the blind, mobility specialists, social workers, and driving rehab specialists. Perform specialty contact lens fittings to maximize visual function if necessary. Maintain proper staffing and clinic coverage in collaboration with the Medical Director of Vision Rehabilitation. Pursue professional growth by completing Michigan Optometric Low Vision Certification and American Academy of Optometry Fellowship. Adhere to continuing education requirements to maintain Michigan optometry licensure. Support staff training, practice building, and develop new relationships within and outside HFH. Participate in staff meetings and act as a role model for team members. Implement best practices to ensure high-quality patient care. Qualifications
Successful completion of an optometry program from an accredited school. Previous direct patient care experience, preferably in low vision rehabilitation. Licensed as an Optometrist in Michigan. Personal Qualities and Skills
Self-directed, flexible, and team-oriented. Willingness to learn and accept diversity. Exceptional patient care and customer service skills. Work Environment
Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures. Additional Details
