Job Title: Community Outreach Representative (COC)
Location:
Seattle, WA (Hybrid/Local Preferred)
Hours: Part-time, 15–20 hours/week
Compensation: Starting at $25/hour
Schedule: Variable. Lots of freedom to make your own schedule, except for a few fixed meetings and events each week. The events schedule changes week to week, so flexible availability is required to accommodate some evening and weekend events.

Basilica Bio is a Black-led organization that aims to expand health equity and Environmental Justice through community partnerships and direct action. We engage students, teachers, and community members through our programs. We are based in Seattle, WA.
Position Summary
The COC will primarily be in charge of planning, promoting, and facilitating public facing community engagement events. The COC will also have ownership of the community engagement strategy, devising new ways to provide knowledge and resources to frontline communities in King County beyond just events. This is a part-time hourly position with flexible hours and the possibility for growth dependent on performance.
Day to day responsibilities:
Event promotion + targeted outreach to specific groups (i.e. diverse and underserved King County Residents)
Facilitating and co-facilitating group discussions at events
Delivering presentations, trainings, and briefings tailored to a variety of audiences (youth, families, educators, civic leaders)
Developing partnerships and managing collaboration with other organizations. Developing and maintaining relationships with community members, schools, local organizations, and other partners
Designing and presenting engaging slide decks, flyers, and outreach materials
Representing Basilica Bio at farmers markets, job fairs, meetings, and public forums
Support with other Basilica Bio programs as needed (e.g. seasonal youth mentorship program, food distribution program, etc)
Responding to messages and emails within 6-12 hours
Desired qualifications and skills:
Location: Must be based in Seattle or able to attend weekly in-person meetings and events
2–4 years of experience in community organizing, nonprofit outreach, education, or environmental justice work. We’re open to people who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes
Background knowledge of Environmental Justice: The ideal candidate brings a passion for environmental justice, public health, science, education, and community outreach.
Contextual Knowledge: Familiarity with issues facing historically marginalized communities in Seattle and King County (e.g., Central District, South Seattle, Rainier Valley). Preferred candidates will have lived experience with these issues
Preferred to have a deep understanding of how these systemic injustices impact BIPOC communities, informed by personal, familial, or community experience
Strong communication skills: Strong public speaking and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Strong written communication skills
Presentation Design: Proficiency in designing high quality presentations that make complex topics simple
Community engagement: has background with engaging diverse and underserved communities
Proactivity: Our team is hybrid, and we hire folks with the ability to take initiative, think up new ideas, and both work independently and collaboratively
Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus (especially Mandarin, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Somali)
Resources: Must have access to a personal laptop and reliable internet
