This is a 7.5 hour per day, 180 day per year Proffessional Technical Paraeducator Veterinary Assisting Program Laboratory Assistant position with benefits at Sno-Isle Skills Center. Anticipated start date is September 8, 2025
Hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY:
Assists in the management of Veterinary Assisting Program activities under the guidance of the program instructor. Models integrity, professionalism and teamwork, supervises students for safety and provides instructional support, monitors the skill development of students, maintains classroom and laboratory space organization and tidiness, maintains inventory, facilitates the pick-up of supplies, donations, and other materials, inspects and maintains laboratory equipment, helps to maintain the health, well-being, and safety of the animals in the care of the program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist instructor with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Assist instructor with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with instructor and other professional staff, as required.
- Assist instructor with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
- Provide administrative & clerical tasks and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials.
- Facilitate completion of student projects/activities.
- Assist students with various lab and technical needs (tools, equipment, animal care, medical procedures, diagnostic procedures, facility maintenance and communication)
- Assist with appropriate and specific competency checkoffs as directed by instructor.
- Assist in managing second year students as needed and while instructor focuses on the first-year students, and vice versa as required
- Maintain books, tools, classroom & laboratory equipment, medical supplies, including checking books/equipment/lockers/items in and out.
- Perform Inventory of program resources/equipment; assist in ordering and managing classroom & laboratory resources and consumables as needed.
- Maintain overall classroom & laboratory sanitation & organization.
- Model and enforce laboratory safety and use of PPE; perform SDS management and maintenance.
- Assist in managing animal waste, maintaining cleaning & disinfection protocols as needed.
- Foster a welcoming and safe environment for students.
- Administer first aid and medical assistance as needed.
- Perform scheduled equipment software updates and facilitate completion of maintenance schedule for specialty equipment, including but not limited to microscopes, autoclaves, cages, kennels, diagnostic monitors, and laboratory equipment
- Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
- Comply with District Policies.
- Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified, , including working 10-12 hours on weekend days and occasional holidays when animals are at the school & requiring care, and students are on campus for ward care. Schedule to be determined based on animal availability and attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

- Ability to perform the physical job requirements of a veterinary hospital setting with or without reasonable accommodation, including utilizing adequate physical strength for lifting animal patients, lifting bales of hay, lifting and sorting bags of animal feeds, and other duties which may require lifting/pulling/pushing relate to this position.
- Ability to work at heights up to 8 feet using a ladder to maintain storage of equipment.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits) or have obtained an associate's (or higher) degree or have successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
- Possession of a current OSHA 10 safety training certification or completion of assigned training within 30 days of hire..
- Possession of a current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness and ability to achieve within 30 days of hire.
- Valid Washington Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
- Experience working in a veterinary hospital/clinic/research facility.
- Experience working with high school aged students, preferred.
- Experience training others, preferred.
