The City of Pleasant Hill is accepting applications for a full time Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer. This position will report to the Development Department and will be a hybrid position of building inspections and codes enforcement. The role will be responsible for not only building inspections, but will also be proactive and complaint driven property maintenance code compliance, education, and assistance efforts.
The required minimum qualifications for this position are: Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school Must have a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record Self-motivated Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public Ability to accurately maintain records Ability to meet deadlines Must be able to lift 10lbs overhead Must be able to withstand bending, squatting, and kneeling for short periods of time
Ideally, the desired candidate would either already have Building Inspector experience and certifications, or would be able to obtain such certifications within a specified time frame. This position would be responsible for Building Inspector duties such as: Inspects buildings during construction to ensure compliance with adopted building codes and other applicable municipal codes and ordinances. Issue building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits Investigate complaints and performs inspections of existing buildings to determine if hazardous or illegal conditions exist relating to structures and their use Assists and advises design professionals, contractors, and the general public in matters relating to construction and code requirements Reviews plans for code compliance including life-safety, conventional framing, plumbing and mechanical, energy, and accessibility Prepares letters and written reports; meets with design professionals, owners and contractors to review plans; issues notice to correct code violations; issues "stop work" notices; and testifies in Municipal Court regarding violations Performs all other duties as assigned
Code Enforcement is an integral component of this position as well and includes such duties as: Conduct property inspections and enforce codes related to tall grass, junk, debris, inoperable vehicles and illegal outdoor storage Actively patrol and respond to citizen complaints Educate and assist property owners on code compliance Issue citations and testify in court if voluntary compliance is not achieved
This position is subject to a background investigation, drug and alcohol screening.
The starting hourly pay for this position is $21.72 - $23.90 depending on qualifications and experience. The City provides a generous benefits program including health, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability insurance, and paid vacation and sick leave. In addition to the competitive benefits package and salary, the City provides a LAGERS L-6 retirement plan with no employee contributions.
