As an R&D Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers in the research, design, development, and improvement of medical devices. Responsibilities:
Manage the R&D Engineering team for device development, inclusive of existing and future disruptive solutions. Use cross-functional input from Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Health Economics, Operations, along with external Voice of Customer (VOC) input to develop therapeutic implant requirements and to shape the division's long-term product portfolio strategy. Partner with our internal teams to establish a 10-year vision for optimal solutions and to accelerate near-term projects which move the industry in that direction. Drive an accelerated Product Life Cycle Process for all Neuromodulation projects, with a strong focus on agile development and commercializing in a competitive timeframe. Proactively manage R&D performance goals and portfolio investments (exploratory, technology development, and product development). Assist in the development and management of annual budgets. Support business development strategy to identify external products, technologies, and intellectual property to accelerate growth. Provide vision, direction, and prioritization in managing a funnel of exploratory implant development projects, with an agile and robust approach. Partners closely with project managers to understand priorities and assign supporting resources to achieve R&D goals and deliverables. Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and resolve technical issues. Empower and support teams in problem-solving, in pursuit of efficient technical decisions. Create a culture of recognition and communication, where ideas, innovations, and accomplishments are valued. Provide guidance and training to staff, assist to attain career goals, motivate individuals to achieve results, and recruit to maintain a high-performing team. Develop and ensure implant development budgets and schedules meet business needs/objectives. Engage physicians, patients, sales reps, marketing, and others to collect feedback for devices under development. Deliver meaningful innovation and create novel intellectual property submissions. Deliver designs that meet goals for performance, standards, manufacturability, reliability, and cost. Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline. 7+ years of experience in engineering with involvement with the new product development process. Experience as a hands-on design engineer in the medical device industry. 3+ years of experience in leadership or management of engineering teams. Experience leading complex projects. Knowledge in Statistical Analysis. Demonstrate global mindset with experience and responsibility in global markets. Willingness to work onsite (4+ days per week) at our Arden Hills, MN site. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience connecting authentically with all levels and types of employees, drive high levels of engagement, and build a culture of high performance and inclusion. Experience with customer engagement, collaboration and interface, support of clinical trials, advisory boards, customer field visits, innovation visits, etc. Experience with product portfolio management; evaluating customer needs, investment decisions & trade-offs, evaluating performance and course-correcting. Strong track record of working globally and cross-functionally across an organizational matrix. Experience building strong collaborative stakeholder relationships. Experience attracting & developing diverse talent, especially in developing new capabilities in a team needed to meet constantly evolving business strategies. Experience managing vendor/partner relationships involved in any aspect of the product development process.
