Overview
The SCADA Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems used in monitoring automated assembly and manufacturing lines. This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of SCADA systems in monitoring real-time data and presenting/reporting information needed for cross-functional teams to optimize OEE, yield, and control of critical process parameters. SCADA Engineer Duties and Responsibilities
SCADA System Design:
Collaborate with cross functional teams (CFTs) or project teams to establish requirements, design, and develop SCADA systems tailored to the specific factory/production lines to effectively present information needed by the CFTs to optimize OEE and yield. Collaborates with IT in the designing of database schemas to integrate SCADA systems with other system's database structures.
System Implementation:
Configure, program, and deploy SCADA hardware and software components, including Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and communication protocols. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including automation engineers, process engineers, and IT professionals, to ensure seamless integration of SCADA systems with other infrastructure components. Develops and modifies HMI/SCADA Systems, including 2D and 3D graphics creation, Tag Database generation, dashboards/reports, computer setup/configuration, startup services including field setup and checkout, troubleshooting and operator training.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
Diagnose and resolve SCADA system malfunctions and software bugs. Perform routine maintenance, software updates, and system backups. Works with controls technicians, IT network technician and other staff in troubleshooting communication/integration issues between Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) and SCADA.
Cybersecurity:
Work with IT to implement and maintain cybersecurity measures to protect SCADA systems from unauthorized access, cyber threats, and vulnerabilities. Ensures SCADA data security and integrity by working with IT to establish operational guidelines and controls including privacy, security, editing, validating and restart/recovery controls.
Data Analysis: Analyze real-time and historical data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues. Develop strategies for process optimization based on data insights. Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive documentation of SCADA system configurations, network diagrams, and operational procedures.
Training:
Provide training and support to operators and maintenance teams to enhance their understanding of SCADA systems and troubleshooting capabilities. Assists and advises users on major aspects of SCADA systems design, operating mode, system software and/or equipment.
SCADA Engineer Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of experience as a SCADA Engineer, Control Engineer, Automation Engineer or similar job function, with a minimum of 5 years in design, implementation and optimization of SCADA systems. Proficiency in SCADA software platforms, preferably Ignition. Must have extensive PC hardware knowledge, with general computer maintenance capabilities. Understanding of network design and cybersecurity principles for SCADA systems. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Windows Server. Experience installing, programming, and troubleshooting Allen/Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Experience in Visual Basic/VBA, Python and/or scripting languages. Strong knowledge of industrial automation protocols (e.g., OPC, Ethernet/IP, Ethercat, Modbus). Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining system reliability. Certification in SCADA or industrial automation is advantageous. Experience in medical device industry (or other regulated industry) is preferable.
