Senior Principal Scientist, Computational Biology
to join our Computational Biology team within our Biology & Drug Discovery division. This is a high-impact role that will combine strategic leadership with hands-on scientific contributions, focused on genomics and proteomics initiatives to support target discovery, mechanistic insights, and translational development. You’ll act as a key scientific contributor and mentor, collaborating closely with both wet-lab and computational scientists. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in computational biology, biomarker development, and translational informatics, as well as a strong record of success driving cross-functional efforts in pharmaceutical or biotech settings. This position requires on-site work in South San Francisco. Key Responsibilities Omics Strategy & Analysis : Design, execute, and guide transcriptomic, proteomic, and multi-omics studies in preclinical models to uncover mechanisms of action, discover biomarkers, and support therapeutic optimization. Translational Data Integration : Analyze and integrate clinical, molecular, and real-world data to derive insights that inform patient stratification, indication selection, and biomarker strategy across the pipeline. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Act as a scientific liaison and advisor to translational medicine, clinical development, and biostatistics teams, aligning computational insights with program goals. Scientific Communication : Communicate findings and strategies clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, both internal and external, ensuring alignment and understanding across disciplines. Leadership & Mentorship : Provide mentorship to junior team members, contribute to hiring and team development, and promote scientific excellence and a collaborative, innovative culture. Required Qualifications Education : PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Genomics, or a related field. Industry Experience : 10+ years of experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare sectors, including postdoctoral and industry experience as a senior-level individual contributor. Technical Skills : Strong background in multi-omics data analysis (e.g., bulk/single-cell RNA-seq, proteomics, genomics) Proven ability in biomarker identification, patient stratification, and interpretation of clinical datasets Proficiency in R, Python, Git, Docker, and cloud-based computing environments Familiarity with clinical assay technologies and regulatory contexts Translational Impact : Experience contributing to regulatory submissions and supporting clinical biomarker strategies in early-stage programs. Collaboration & Communication : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated success working in highly collaborative, cross-functional environments. Innovation-Oriented : Enthusiastic about adopting new technologies—such as explainable machine learning and single-cell analytics—to drive therapeutic discovery and improve patient outcomes.
