Mechanical Designer Job Overview:
Caterpillar's Electrification and Energy Solutions Division is seeking two experienced Mechanical Designers to support engineering efforts in motor and resistor grid design. This role involves CAD design, teardown analysis, and research & development of mechanical devices. The successful candidates will contribute to the development, testing, and optimization of mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities: Perform CAD design and detailing for motor and resistor grid designs. Conduct teardown activities and perform in-depth analysis. Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility in terms of time and cost. Investigate equipment failures and operational difficulties, providing maintenance recommendations. Assist drafters in developing structural designs using tools, equipment, or software.
Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 3+ years of experience. Internship/co-op experience counts toward the experience requirement. Proficiency in CAD detailing and design. Experience with
CREO
for mechanical design. Ability to create sketches, engineering drawings, and perform common computations. Strong knowledge of
Excel
for data analysis and reporting. Competence in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports. Experience with
Teamcenter
for design and data management.
Desired Skills & Experience: Prior experience working with
Caterpillar
and familiarity with
1E specifications . Knowledge of
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) . Experience with
Electromagnetic (EM) and Thermal Motor Analysis . Proficiency in
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis . Background in
rotating component and structural design .
